Lymphedema

I would love to join a Yoga class, but up until now have not found one that did not aggravate the lymphedema condition in my left arm.  If anyone knows of an instructor or class that accomodates folks like me, please do not hesitate to contact me.

    Hi Lauren,

    I reached out to a women I adore at M. D. Anderson, who runs their Mind-Body-Spirit Program which offers yoga classes. Several of my friends take yoga classes there. I've explained your situation and am waiting back for a reply.  I'll let you know if this is a good option for you to consider!

    Hi there,

    6 weeks after my bilateral mastectomy I started practicing Kundalini Yoga which is different from the Yoga that is practiced at fitness centers(Ashtanga) mainly focusing on breathing,meditation with chanting and upper body opening exercises done seated mostly. I owe the complete recovery from my bilateral mastectomy with reconstruction to those sessions I hardly have any loss of flexibility.. can even do a real bridge pose wohooo !

    I would highly recommend checking it out they have an ashram in Altamonte. Go with an open mind in your first session because I  had a very high urge to just run out of there because the experience is very unique until you get a hang of what is going on . However afterwards it was a big part of my recovery process mentally and physically.

    Theresa and Calvin from College Park Yoga ( they practice Power Yoga - more like the Yoga that is practiced at fitness centers) also stated that they are able to do adaptive poses for bc patients if you want to go that route definitely worth checking out, they have extremely positive energy !
