The WPFT Community is launching a new series called Five Questions With. The series is designed to help WPFT volunteers get to know each other by sharing pictures and comments about themselves and their involvement with WPFT.

Why is volunteering important to you?

That's a question many of my friends keep asking me and why I keep telling them because it's simply a gift that each one of us is blessed to have and share and it warms my heart and gives me great joy the joy to help others. Generosity is  not so much the giving of things as it is the giving of one's  self. The world needs more people like me and everyone else who volunteers..more people who are willing to leave things a little better than they found them,  to reach out with compassion.. people who are willing to do the good, right, kind, thing, just because they know it will make a difference some day to someone. When you volunteer, you are touching a moment in the life of someone with your spirit that only you can feel.

What is your favorite WPFT Event?

Wow, only one favorite? I have to mention three-- I was introduced to WPFT at Orange Tree Golf Club where I live and find the events we are involved in to be thoroughly enjoyable and inviting. Another event that I have come to love is Tavistock where my neighbor, Janet Burke and I have been crowned "The Masters" at getting donations--I mean come on what guy doesn't like "boobs"! Lastly, an event that totally touched my life was paddling in the Supporter dragon boat this past October at the Pink Ribbon Dragon Boat Race. Now I know exactly what I was called to do!

If you could speak to every women being treated for cancer, what would you say?

Every day, too many times a day, the dreaded word "cancer" pops into our daily conversation. Almost everyone has been touched by it in some way, either by a family member or friend. But, I believe together, especially through our volunteering efforts and special organizations like WPFT, we can make a significant difference. Thanks to the collaborative efforts and knowledge of MD Anderson Cancer Center and the new UCF Burnett School of Biomedical Science at Lake Nona, we can continue to get closer to strengthening our efforts toward finding a cure. Abraham Lincoln said "Your own resolution to succeed is more important than any other thing" and that's my wish for every woman being treated for cancer, that through their desire to succeed and beat this disease, they fight together and support each other and allow people like us to surround them with our energy and love.

What would surprise most people to learn about you?

I went back to school after MANY years and recently graduated and passed my state exam to become a licensed massage therapist! I aspire to massage cancer patients at MD Anderson Cancer Center Orlando!!

What is your favorite pastime?

I enjoy rollerblading and golfing!  But my "life" are my three teenage children: Anthony, 20 attends DeVry University; Nicole, 18, is on a swim scholarship at Daytona State College, and Marisa, 17, is a Senior at Dr. Phillips High School hoping for a water polo scholarship! They are extraordinary gifts in my life and I am blessed!

Is there anything else you would like to share?

WPFT ROCKS! I feel honored and privileged to be a part of this empowering group of women who are determined and committed to raising awareness against breast cancer in Central Florida.
