I hope to see a lot of familiar faces at the Annual Hope Hike on Friday October 2nd.  This is the official kick off of Pink October for M. D. Anderson Cancer Center Orlando, although we have already started to have events this past weekend.

The Hope Hike starts with a proclamation from the Mayor of Orlando stating that October is officially Pink October and Breast Cancer Awareness month for M. D. Anderson - Orlando.  Then the crowd of people that have amassed lead the 1 mile procession along the sidewalk of Orange Avenue to M. D. Anderson - Orlando where they are treated to a welcome reception generously provided by Panera Breads, our pink ribbon bagel partners.  We will be escorted by our own personal OPD bicycle cop who will hold traffic for us so we all cross the intersections at the same time.  There is a lot of honking and waiving from supporters in their cars driving by.

A shuttle from Orlando Health will pick up participants at the entrance of M. D. Anderson-Orlando or you can drive to City Hall (there is a parking deck behind it) and take a shuttle back to pick up your car after the event.  Shuttle service runs to and from M. D. Anderson and City Hall from 10:00 am to the end of the event.  If you want to join us for the ceremony but cannot make the hike, hop on the shuttle back to M. D. Anderson - Orlando and join us for the welcome party.

Wear your tennis shoes, dress in pink and join us as we kick off a busy month for WPFT! In past Hope Hikes, people have brought their dogs on the walk dressed in pink scarves, their babies in strollers dressed in pink and breast cancer survivors have brought their support group of friends and family to walk with them.  Let's make this a walk to remember.  See you on Friday!!!!  Lynda
