We all have them…we all love them… Comfort Foods!
How many times have you given-in to that pint of Rocky Road ice cream, caramel chocolate bar or macaroni and cheese bowl? Comfort foods just make us feel good. They fill us up emotionally! Whether we are sad, happy, frustrated or just need a confirmation that all will be “ok”, we turn to our comfort foods.
They come from an assortment of food groups and may change during different phases of our lives but I think the core of comfort foods remind us of childhood good times!
During my radiation cancer treatments of the head and neck area, I re-discovered pastina mixed with butter and milk …only folks from the northeast probably remember this very tiny pasta but it’s an old childhood favorite of mine that I found easy to swallow when everything else was impossible and eating was a chore! This comfort food played a large part in my recovery and still makes me smile inside when I have a bowl.
What are your comfort foods and how do they help get your
through the bumps in the road? Happy Memories!

Posted 8:53pm September 28th, 2009Wow, a macaroni and cheese sub sounds about like the best thing I've ever heard of!
You know, even when I was pregnant, I never had any of those stereotypical "weird cravings" (no pickles and ice cream here), but what I did develop was a wicked sweet tooth. I figured since I was giving up wine, beer, deli meat, sushi, soft cheeses and most fish, I at least deserved ice cream every night. And I must say, even though my baby is 1 1/2 now, it's been a hard habit to break!
One of my favorite comfort foods is mac and cheese with a can of tuna mixed in! Whenever my husband is out of town, it's one of my go-to meals because if I try to make it around him, he says it makes him feel nauseous. Wimp!
Yum, now I'm hungry! Way to go on the cleanse, Lindsey. You're a brave and dedicated soul!

Posted 12:41pm September 25th, 2009My mouth is watering. I'm on day 7 of a cleanse that involves no carbs or dairy and basically puts me back to the primordial stew of what people were eating. I'm craving pizza and beer - the longer I think about it. My girlfriend who is doing the same cleanse told me she is craving a macaroni and cheese sub. Which quite frankly I didn't even know existed. Marilyn - when I get off this cleanse you better believe I'm going to get me some pastina! Anyone else having wierd cravings?
