Hi --- we have been having some wonderful practices in Tavares!! The WOW team is pulling together and working hard. We get there Tuesday evenings and practice until the sun sets; and on Sunday mornings, we are there to watch it rise! It is with the WPFT's help that we are going to be able to race at Disney and I am truly thankful for your support. Having cancer has introduced me to a community of caring and supportive individuals. Dragon Boating has been the first positive activity I am involved in as a cancer survivor. As a team member I am being asked to be focused on myself - to be a positive team presence, to take care of myself, to push myself physically and challenge myself mentally. It is unlike any other cancer activity - an absolutely wonderful experierence.

Yesterday I went to Tavares to join our 1st Pink Dragon Boat team, Warriors on Water, for a dragon boat practice. What an incredible experience. I had been warmly invited by Kat Fieler, coach and survivor and upon arrival was so welcomed. I felt a little shy and wasn't sure what to do but everyone was so kind, that soon disappeared. Although I row with the Orlando Rowing Club, this is totally different and I had never attended a practice.Grace, the coach of the competitive Tavares team also coached us for the day. It was a blast but is counter intuitive to anything you normally do. Just getting the strokes down in the right form is a challenge and then, like rowing, you have to synchronize with the person in front of you. Grace worked on strokes, starts and told us what it will be like at a Festival.I LOVED it and our team. They are so brave because they are going to engage in the WDW Festival and WOW are really newbies. Love the courage and sense of teamwork. When we get a Dragon Boat for Orlando, I will be a part of a team. Not only is it fun and challenging but it is all core so I can only think of the role this will play in fitness and body shaping.
